Island Organics Seaweed Extract
For over 12 years, Island Organics has specialized in producing Seaweed Biostimulant Extract that helps farmers reduce input costs while boosting crop health, resilience, and yield.
Our mission is to provide farmers with fresh Ascophyllum nodosum seaweed and hands-on training to establish a simple, reliable, on-site brewing process for OMRI listed seaweed extract.
We sustainably harvest seaweed from Penobscot Bay in mid-coast Maine and deliver it directly to farms. This avoids the high cost of premade inputs while ensuring quality control and supply. Seaweed is naturally rich in plant growth regulators (PGRs) and systemic acquired resistances (SARs), which improve crop health and yield. Farmers typically see a 15-20% increase in yield and stronger plant health!
Here’s how it works:
- We set up brewing pools at the farm and deliver the fresh seaweed
- We show farmers how to brew the extract and monitor progress through the first brewing period
- The seaweed is brewed on-site for 30-40 days
- Costs farmers about $4-6 per gallon, depending on evaporation rate during brewing
- After brewing, the remaining solid seaweed becomes a high-value soil conditioner, creating zero waste
This system allows farmers to cut costs, improve yields, and build long term soil health – all with a sustainable, OMRI approved input.
HAND HARVESTING
Sustainably hand harvested ASCOPHYLLUM NODOSUM seaweed from the pristine coastal Maine waters. Packed fresh in mesh bags and stored in ocean water to keep the seaweed nutrient-rich until transport

RINSING & WEIGHING
Bags are rinsed with fresh water to remove any excess salt.
Each bag is weighed for the right ratio’s needed for size of batch being brewed before shipping to the farm.

TRANSPORT TO FARMS
Clean, fresh seaweed is delivered directly to farms by truck in bags.
Tractors are used to unload the seaweed efficiently for processing.

POOL PREPARATION
The seaweed bags are placed into large pools for controlled brewing. Bags are opened and the seaweed is released into pool. The biomass begins to breakdown, starting the natural fermentation. This system allows for fermentation and nutrient release that turns into a biostimulant.

BREWING PROCESS
The seaweed ferments over 30 to 40 days, gradually transforming into a concentrated biostimulant. Aeration encourages microbial activity, producing natural PLANT GROWTH REGULATORS (pgr’s) and SYSTEM ACQUIRED RESISTANCE (sar’s) compounds .
The foaming action shows enzymes and microbes working to release nutrients.

FILTERING AND EXTRACT COLLECTION
After brewing, the liquid is filtered with 200 micron filters ensuring no clogging issues on drip lines or foliar spraying. The end result is a nutrient rich organic extract full of minerals, amino acids, cytokinins, auxins, and natural stimulants .

SOIL CONDITIONER
The leftover seaweed in the end of process is used as a great soil conditioner, so there is zero waste with the process.

FINISHED BIOSTIMULANT
OMRI listed for organic farming suitable for soil, hydro, and foliar feeding.
Farmers receive a cost-effective powerful biostimulant that boosts yields, strengthens crops, and improves soil health.

FARM SETUP REQUIREMENTS FOR ON-SITE SEAWEED EXTRACT BREWING
1. Space for Brewing Pool
- A flat, stable area to place the pool or tank
(30-40 day brewing process). - Should allow safe access for filling,
monitoring, and filtering. - Ideally shaded or partially covered to
protect from debris.
2. Reliable Water Source
Clean and consistent water supply is
needed for:
- Filling the pool
- Rinsing equipment
- Maintaining brewing conditions
Connection point should be within easy
reach of the pool.
3. Electrical Access (220V Power)
Standard 220V outlet required for:
- Pumps
- Mixers
- Filtration systems
Power source should be stable and near the brewing location.
Note: These are the only essentials needed from the farm. We provide the seaweed, brewing expertise, and setup guidance to make sure the process runs smoothly.
FREE SAMPLE OFFER – Limited to Qualifying Farms
We are offering free, full-strength samples of our OMRI-listed Ascophyllum nodosum seaweed extract, with free shipping, to a limited number of qualifying farms for field evaluation.
Each selected farm will receive an adequate-sized sample, enough to conduct a meaningful trial on a chosen crop area – and experience the benefits firsthand.
Qualifying farms may include:
- East Coast vegetable, fruit, or sugarcane operations
- Farms testing for yield, Brix, and plant vigor improvements
- Growers willing to share trial feedback and photos
Our goal is to help East Coast growers cut costs, boost yield, and improve crop quality using fresh-brewed seaweed extract made right on the farm.
